Hohensalzburg Fortress

The fortress above Salzburg's old town was begun in 1077 under Archbishop Gebhard and enlarged over the centuries; it is regarded as one of the largest preserved castles in Central Europe. You can walk up or take the funicular. Its historic rooms, such as the Prince's Chamber (Fürstenzimmer), regularly host chamber concerts.
